POINTING DOG TRAINING
There is no greater feeling than to hunt behind a fine bird dog and the satisfaction of having your own dog perform in the field is unmatched. We train to the highest of standards here at Double G and expect your dogs to look like ours when we send them home. There are several levels of goals each devised for different types of owners. Our training price is $500 per month which includes birds, food and heart worm medicine. We offer all of the following training services:
PUPPY HEAD START PROGRAM - $300
Our head start program is designed to equip young pups with the preparation work needed for formal training. We get the pups out every day for different lessons based on many different areas of socialization. The pups are exposed to four wheelers, gun fire, birds, water, human socialization, dog socialization, retrieving development and leash work. The pups never hear the word “no” but instead everything is based on positive reinforcement. We make all situations pleasant and allow the pups to begin the natural process of developing all of their senses in a favorable environment. We don’t use any treats, just simple praise. The head start program takes 30 days.
BASIC GUNDOG PROGRAM - $500 per month
Started dogs are considered to be young dogs, up to 1 ½ years of age, that are steady to flush and perform all of their obedience perfectly. A started dog will know the commands Here, Heel, Whoa and Kennel as well as hold a steady point until the hunter moves in and flushes a bird. If a dog is not a natural retriever or is not a consistent retriever, we will also put the dog through the force fetch process. A started dog will take 3-4 months to complete all training aspects necessary to be considered a started dog. A started dog will be expected to find and point birds, hold steady points until the bird is flushed, retrieve birds to hand, and perform obedience commands both in the field and at home. Most of these dogs will have close to 20 birds killed over them.
ADVANCED GUNDOG PROGRAM - $500 per month
Not every dog has the potential to complete this level of training. It takes a well bred dog that has the trainability and intelligence to learn complex commands to complete this program. A finished dog is considered to be steady to flush, handle with both voice and whistle and perform all of their obedience perfectly. A finished dog will know the commands Here, Heel, Whoa, Kennel, Ok and change directions verbally to Hup or by whistle. We also put the command “blanket” on dogs that will be inside the home. 60% of the dogs that complete the Started Dog Program are eligible for the Finished Dog Program. A finished dog will be expected to quarter a field and changed directions by either a verbal command or whistle command. It will find and point birds until the hunter moves in and flushes a bird, retrieve to hand, and perform obedience commands both in the field and at home. Most of these dogs will have close to 50 birds killed over them.
RETRIEVER TRAINING
A fine tuned retriever is one of the most rewarding animals to witness at work. They show enduring passion with every bird brought back regardless of the weather or any other conditions standing in their way. The retrievers are where it all started for us first working in the dog industry and owning several different kennels. We don’t travel and compete anymore, but we can produce a bird machine as well as anyone out there.

The basic gundog program is designed to produce a dog that will pick up birds in the field and deliver the birds to hand. We start by putting 30 days of obedience on your dog which is followed by the force fetch process. This takes 30 to 60 days depending on the dog and it is really the foundation of the retriever program. The third or fourth month consists of putting everything together using birds and guns. We typically shoot 25-30 pigeons before they go home to simulate a true hunting scenario. At the end of the basics you can expect your dog to perform all obedience without a leash, go through collar conditioning, complete the force fetch process, and have live field experience on birds.
ADVANCED GUNDOG PROGRAM - $500 per month
Dogs that have excelled in the basic program are candidates for the advanced work. This program is designed to teach a dog how to handle with hand signals and whistle. We also teach the dog how to mark multiple birds down and expose them to many different hunting situations. The advanced program takes 90-120 days to complete.
